What is a TeachMeet?
Held monthly for a couple of hours in the early evening after school, our TeachMeets are essentially informal show-and-tell sessions.
We have been running them since January 2014 at school and college locations around London. And they have been fun! We’ve not adopted the rigid framework of some TeachMeets elsewhere in the country where attendees must opt to make ‘nano–’ and ‘micro-presentations’. Rather, we have enjoyed free flowing conversations where everyone feels able to talk about what they’ve been doing recently. And it’s led to some great swapping of ideas and a generally positive atmosphere.
Who is involved?
In addition to teachers and PGCE students from schools and colleges in the vicinity of the TeachMeet, we’ve been amazed how far people have travelled and also the range of experience and subjects that they’ve come from. We’ve also usually invited along a smattering of interesting designers/makers to bring a practitioner perspective to the conversations.
Our hope is that in the fullness of time, each locality will establish its own self-propelled TeachMeet group.
When are our next TeachMeets?
We have scheduled nine TeachMeets for every half-term in the coming school year 2014-15.
