Summer Camp 2016 flyer – amended datesWhat is Design Camp?
We have been running week-long Design Camps in the school holidays since 2008.
Our Camps have several features which we think make them both unique, highly creative, and very effective.
- Each workshop is devised and led by a practising designer/maker, working together with an experienced Design & Technology or Art & Design teacher, usually assisted by a PGCE or design student from a local university
- Each workshop focusses on one major design and make challenge or skill area for the entire week
- Group sizes are limited to 15 pupils per workshop
Who is involved?
Each of our Camps generally draws pupils from two year groups. In the past that has meant Year 8 & 9 for our Secondary Camps, and Year 5 & 6 for our Primary Camps. But we are not too rigid about that, and sometimes younger or older brothers and sisters have come along as well.
We also like parents to be involved, in particular coming to a celebratory ShowTime at the end of each Camp.
When is our next Camp?
We have a great programme of Design Camps for 2015/2016. Our next Camp will be held in West London on:
July 25, 26, 27 at Phoenix High School The Curve, London W12 0RQ
The workshop will be led by ex-cabinet maker Adam Findlay and is for Y5 – Y9. Adam is a D&T teacher at Kings Alfred’s in Hampstead and has led several of our camps over the past two years. The pupils will design, make and customise their own go-karts.
They will learn the full manufacturing process of measuring, marking, cutting, drilling, refining, assembling and decorating their games to their own designs which they will take home.
The cost for the three days is £90 with a small number of concessionary places available at £30.
If your child is interested please firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest. We will then send your child an Application Form by email for them to complete with you or download the form here: Summer Camp 2016 flyer – amended dates
Other dates for this year are May 31 – June 2 2016 and July 25 – 29 2016.
